The Epistemology of Spirit Beliefs

Více o produktu ↓

This book assesses whether religious epistemology can argue for the rationality of belief in spirits, animistic beliefs and belief in possession. It argues that beliefs concerning spirits can be regarded as rational when they are rooted in experiences that are not defeated. Additionally, it shows that traditional theistic belief is epistemically linked to spirit beliefs. The book draws on phenomenal conservatism, reformed epistemology and defenses of religious experiences to argue that these beliefs can be regarded as rational in the absence of defeaters. The author then examines proposed defeaters from the cognitive science of religion, psychology and cognitive neuroscience.
